Kagaya sa nakalipas na ilan nang taon, asahan pa rin ang pag-uuwi nang maraming karangalan ng mga Pinoy at pagsiglang lalo pa ng bilyar sa bansa kahit malabo pa itong makapasok sa Olympics sa hinaharap.

Iniladlad kahapon nina Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines president Ernesto Fajardo at chairman Yen Makabenta sa isang pananghalian sa Visayas Function Room ng Sofitel Philippine Plaza sa Pasay City sa mga mamamahayag ang programa nila para sa taong ito tampok ang pagpasok sa bilyar sa mga paaralan bilang physical education.

“As a matter of policy and as a key objective, we will seek to create Filipino world champions in all pool disciplines and all age levels. It will therefore send participants to all major tourneys,” ani Fajardo.

Kabilang sa mga torneong nais sakupin ng mga Pinoy ay ang Women’s World 9-Ball Championship sa Pebrero-Marso, Men’s 8-Ball World Championship sa Abril, World Juniors and Girls Championships sa Nobyembre, Guinnes Pool Tour at iba pa.

“The BSCP will lobby in 2008 for the inclusion of billiard sports as PE course in the Philippine school curriculum. This move will help to arrest the heavy dropout rate of pool players from the educational system, and give fitting recognition to the aptitude of Fili­pinos in the sport,” bulalas naman ni Makabenta. “Talks have already started with (Department of) Edu­cation Secretary Jesli Lapus.

Gayunman, malungkot na isiniwalat ng dalawang opisyal ng cue sports na malabo pa ring mapabilang ang billiards o snooker bilang Olympic sport. “Malayu-layo pa although hanggang ngayon naman ay tina­trabaho iyan ng aming international federation sa Inter­national Olympic Committee.”

Kabilang sa planong mga isasargo ng naturang national sport association ay ang 2nd Phil. Junior C’ship sa Marso 21-23, BSCP Phil. Tour na may pitong bahagi sa mga pangunahing lungsod ng bansa umpisa sa Mandaluyong sa Abril 9-13, Phil. 10-Ball Open sa Mayo 5-11, Metropool Students League sa Hunyo hanggang Oktubre na may anim na yugto sa mga siyudad sa Metro Manila, 3rd Phil. National Pool C’hip for men & women sa Setyembre 8-14 at World 10-Ball Pool Championship sa Nobyembre 8-16 na malaki ang posibiliad na pamalit sa 3rd World 9-Ball C’ship 2008. ()
